About this small cartoon book
I remember living in Hong Kong when I was young, every Sunday the English newspaper would put out an entire page of cartoons. Time and again, my sister and I would fight over it. When neither of us could understand the jokes, we would beg our parents to explain them to us. The memory of that delightful time remains with me.
Since I became involved in editing the quarterly Newsletter for the American Cancer Society-Northern California Chinese Unit, I have always wanted the publication to include humor in a warm-hearted way in addition to providing information and offering a channel for patients and their families to share their experiences. Cartoons are an ideal tool, and so there I was, drawing one cartoon after another. I now have 59 of them collected in this small booklet. I offer it in the belief that people will always have the courage to “Laugh Along the Way”.
For the benefit of those who do not understand Chinese, I have also provided English captions. However, some jokes defy direct translation, so author’s privilege is claimed for a looser approach.
