We've got one day break.
清晨多美啊!
What a beautiful morning!
窩巢邊,
By the nest,
野鴿同沐日光.
A pair of doves enjoyed bathing in the sun.
默默地,
Less conspicuously,
水仙芳香耀日.
Fragrant narcissuses shone in the sun.
晴空裡,
High above,
兀鷹展翅翱翔.
Condors winged the air in the sun.
受夠了,
Long enough,
惡劣的天候.
It has been rough.
陰天, 雨天, 大風天, 霜天......
Cloudy, rainy, windy, frosty......
氣象報告,即將下雨.
Weatherman said, soon the rain will come.
我會想念太陽的.
Sure I'll miss the sun.

電話上,
On the phone,
農夫:"你好?"
Nung-Fu:"How are you?"
Nancy:"恭喜啊! 你剛有一個小外孫女."
Nancy:"Congratulations! You just had a new granddaughter."
農夫:"你怎麼知道的?"
Nung-Fu:"How did you know that?"
Nancy:"你老婆在步落格寫的."
Nancy:"Your wife's blog said so."
農夫:"!!!"
Nung-Fu:"!!!"
他可嚇了一大跳, 真有人看我寫的東西.
He was astonished at somebody visiting my blog is for real.
我們在Nancy 和 Peter 家聊得很愉快.
We had a nice chat with Nancy and Peter over their place.
還有新鮮萊姆果和漂亮石子帶回家.
We brought fresh limes and gorgeous stones back.
好友似好酒,越陳越醇.
Good friend like good wine, the older the better.
乾杯!

呼呼呼喊,
Roar, roar, roar,
狂風席捲.
Gusty wind swept over. 鴨雀停飛,
Grounded birds,
樹枝殘斷.
Broken branches. 天地一鷹,
The one and only condor,
巡航家園.
Cruised the manor. 風鈴擺盪.

山頭積滿了雪.
The hilltops were covered with snow.
農夫說, "我們上山去!"
Nung-Fu said, "Let's go!"
我們又上弗利蒙山頂.
So we went up to Fremont Peak again.
到達山頂, 我說, "我們丟雪球玩!"
At the peak, I said, "Let's play snowball!"
"老了, 不想丟雪球." 農夫這樣說.
So Nun-Fu said, "Too old to play snowball."
很早很早很早以前,
Long long long ago,
當我們少年青春.
One day when we were young.
農夫說, "我們上山去!"
Nung-Fu said, "Let's go!"
我們就去了山頂覆雪的陽明山.
So we went to snowcapped YungMingShan.
我們合力堆一個雪人.
Together we made a snowman.
當我們少年青春.
One day when we were young.
冰雪覆蓋聖他安娜峰.
Snowcapped Sante Anna Peak.  上山入口.

一月廿三日 星期三 陰晚雨
陰雨連綿.
A run of wet weather.
山腳下, 新綠亮麗耀眼.
Dazzling shiny green under the foothills. 一片接一片,
One after another, 綠到山腳邊.
Green to the foothills. 是牧草? 是野草?
Are these grass? weeds? 還是薺菜香鮮?
Or Shepherd's purse delicious?
農家食譜----薺菜小炒
Farmer's simple food----Stir-Fried Shepherd's Purse
材料----肉絲, 豆干絲, 薺菜粗段.
Shreded pork, shreded dry tofu, roughly chopped Shepherd's purse.
做法----熱油鍋.
Pour the oil into stir-fry pan over high heat.
翻炒肉絲半熟. 置鍋邊.
Stir fry the shreded pork till half cooked. Move aside.
略炒豆干絲至軟熟.
Gently stir fry the shreded dry tofu till soft.
加肉絲同炒, 至肉絲熟.
Add the shreded pork to the shreded dry tofu,
stir fry about 20 seconds or till the meat is fully cooked.
倒入薺菜段, 拌炒至薺菜萎.
Stir in the chopped Shepherd's purse till the green loses its row look.

假日小休,
A holiday short break,
我們上弗利蒙山頂州立公園.
We went to the Fremont Peak State Park.
數年前,我們運氣不錯,
Lucky we were years ago,
路上遇見一隻紅狐踟躕.
A red fox tottered in the road.
在這隆冬,
In the deep of the winter,
期望再次見到紅狐.
We expected to come across a red fox once again.
走山路蜿蜒而上,
Along the road winding up,
許多牛, 馬, 驢, 羊,
There were cattle, horses, donkeys, sheep,
寧靜一片.
In the stillness.
無緣見到紅狐.
Not a breath of luck to find red fox.
下雨雪了!
It's sleeting!

就在山頂.
On top of Fremont Peak.
像下雨, 也像下雪.
It looked like rain, also like snow.
鄉巴佬未曾見過雨雪.
Country-woman have never seen sleet before.

Several American coots visited the farm.
方知牠們專精中國功夫,
Getting to know that they are very good at Chinese Kung-Fu,
蜻蜓點水,
Scale as the dragonfly taps its tail end on the water,
飛快走水, 四面八方.
Travel around the water surface swiftly.
任誰都追不上.
Nobody does it so well.
大腳, 非蹼.
Big feet, not webs.

天氣放晴了, 可以給果樹噴藥.
It's a beautiful day to spray the fruit trees.
對面鄰居代理有機農藥.
A neighbor across the road sells the organic fungicides.
小羊換農藥.
One baby goat is good enough to trade with it.
我們在郵箱遇著.
We met at the mailboxes. 我問鄰居, "如何調配農藥?"
"How to mix it with water?" I asked my neighbor. "你的容器有多大?"鄰居問我.
"Hou big is your container?" He questioned. 我在膝邊比了一下,
With my hand measured along my knee, 約略指出桶子多高.
roughly showed him the height of my bucket.
"一杯藥對一桶水的比例." 他對我說.
"1 cup(=8 ounce) to 1 bucket of water is perfect fine." He said to me.
果樹秋天落葉修枝後,
After the fruit trees bared and pruned in fall,
到明春開花前,
till blossom next Spring,
二三次噴藥,
spray 2 to 3 times,
防蟲防捲葉.
to prevent the bugs and curly leaves.
預期果實纍纍.
Expecting heavy crops.

Seven hours old 
十月十二日 星期六 晴
農夫要我去買一黃瓶物.
Nung-Fu asked me to buy something in a yellow bottle .
到汽車配備專賣店, 我跟店員說, "我要買這個."
I told salesman in Auto Zone, "I want this ."
我給店員看那沒有標貼的黃瓶.
Showing him the empty yellow bottle without any label on it.
店員問, "這是什麼?"
He puzzled, "What is this?"
我說,"我不知道."
"I don't know." I said.
再瞄一眼黃瓶後, 店員說, "噢! 我知道了."
After one more quick look, he said, "Oh! I know what this is."
他轉身去倉庫拿給我一橘瓶.
He turned to the storage, and handed me an orange bottle.
我說, "對不起, 你沒有黃瓶的嗎?"
I asked, "Excuse me, Do you have a yellow one?"
店員回答, "我只有橘瓶的."
"That is all I have." Salesman answered.
別無其他選擇,
No other choice,
我只好拿了橘瓶回家.
I took the orange bottle home reluctantly.
發現黃瓶原是橘瓶退了色.
Found that the yellow was actually the orange faded away.

一月十一日 星期五 陰後晴
小青蛙住農舍四周,
Little frog lived around the farm house,
青草叢中.
Somewhere in the grass.
牠開心快活的蛙鳴,
He croaked merrily,
唱盡所有夏夜.
All the summer night.
牠避寒花盆底,
He hibernated at the bottom of a pot,
過冬.
In winter time.
我偶而去看看牠.
I visited him, once in a while.
溪邊傳來混聲大合唱,
There came a grand mixed chorus from the creek side,
嘓嘓大聲
CROAK CROAK CROAK
嘓嘓小聲
croak croak croak
潺潺水聲
Murmur Murmur Murmur
直到夜深.
Deep into the night.
我找著小青蛙的新居,
I found little frog's new dwell,
正在牠回家的半路上.
Right in the middle on his way back.
就知牠昨夜去合唱.
I knew he chorused last night.
誰在盆底?
Who's down there?

To finish the job,
農夫再度走進池塘.
Again, Nung-Fu walked into the pond.
用鐵片,
Iron pieces were useful,
用石塊.
Rock was helpful.
太好了!
Great!
擴散器釋放出空氣了!
Bubbles and bubbles came out of the diffuser.
意外地,
Surprisingly,
我在池邊撿到一枚蛋.
I found an egg along the bank.
那邊撿到另一枚.
Another one was over there.
我們晚餐吃炒蛋.
We're having scrambled egg for dinner.
農家食譜----綠葉炒蛋.
Farmer's simple food----Scrambled egg with green leaves
材料--------數片綠葉菜,
leaves of green vege, washed and drained
幾個蛋,
eggs, beaten
鹽.
salt.
做法--------粗切綠葉菜, 拌入蛋汁.
Method----Roughly cut green leaves, mix with beaten eggs.
油鍋高熱, 倒入菜蛋糊.
Pour vege-egg mixer into fry pan over high heat.
待蛋稍凝固, 略翻炒.
Till the mixer semisolid, gently stir fry it.
加鹽. 熄火.
Add salt. Heat off.
走入池塘.
Into the pond.

牠吃草匆匆.
She dashed to grass,
又趕回匆匆.
And hurried return.
牠抱蛋太久太久.
She has been sitting for too long.
終於,
At last,
牠覺悟不對勁,
She realized something underneath went wrong,
等我開門到天明.
Waiting for me to open the gate till next morning.
老太太,
Old lady,
你最親愛的已往生,
Your Dearest has already gone,
去到天堂.
To the heaven.
不論你多努力給蛋保溫,
No matter how hard you kept the egg warm,
都已無用.
It was all in vain.
生命向前行.
Life goes on.
棄蛋.
Abandoned egg.

老遠, 不做他想, 我便認出牠們.
Far away, without a second thought, I recognized them.
我跟農夫說, "就是牠們."
I told Nung-Fu, "It's the three's company."
農夫懷疑, "你怎知道?"
Nung-Fu doubted, "How do you know it so sure?"
我說, "去年前年這時候,
I said, "Same time last year and two years before,
同樣三隻雁都來報到.
same three canadian geese came here.
牠們霸占鵝飼料,
They occupied farm geese's feed,
追鵝趕鵝嚇鵝."
chased and frightened the poor geese around."
去年我沒有好的鵝蛋,
My geese laid plenty bad eggs last year,
也沒有好的小鵝.
I didn't have good goslings, either.
我損失不少.
That was a great loss to me.
瞧!牠們多自在!
Look! How relaxed they are!
好像在自家農場一樣.
Almost like in their own farm.
到目前牠們的表現還不錯.
So far so good.
但是----------
But---------
當心聽著, 你們今年休想再如此.
Listen carefully! Don't you even think about IT this year!
老遠認出三雁客.

一月七日 星期一 晴有雲
夜雨使乾涸的小溪新生.
Over night rain brought the seasonal creek a new life.
它竟夜低語淙淙.
It murmured all through the night.
它整日哼唱,
It hummed away daytimes,
有時咕噥前行.
and gurgled along sometimes.
小溪蜿蜒,
It chanted joyfully from the mountain,
從高山快活吟唱到大洋.
winding down to the ocean.
唱出我喜愛的歌.
Singing my favorite song.
*唯有雨季, 水才流經季節性小溪.
Water runs through the seasonal creek in rainy season only.
從山而下.

急雨斷斷續續, 下不停.
A rush of rain was coming and going intermittently and endlessly.
趁雨勢暫緩, 羊群趕去吃草;
The goats ran to grass while it diminished,
雨漸緊密, 羊群躲回棚舍.
they stayed in the shed as it poured.
雨點時大時小,
The raindrops were heavy and light at intervals,
牠們忙進又忙出.
the goats got busy in and out.
我們去買牧草,
We went to the feed company for alfalfa hay,
省了牠們在雨中奔波.
to save their trips back and forth in the rain.
農家食譜----醃漬鳳梨芭樂
Farmer's simple food----Pickled pineapple guavas
材料-----鳳梨芭樂
Pineapple gravas
做法-----鳳梨芭樂洗淨, 切去兩頭.
Method--Wash the pineapple guavas, cut both ends off.
果肉深劃一兩刀.
1 or 2 deep cut the fruit.
置容器內.
Set fruits in container.
撒一小撮鹽, 拌勻.
Spread a pinch of salt, mix well.
三至四小時後, 倒除出汁.
Get rid of the juice from fruits after 3-4 hours.
再撒一小撮鹽, 拌勻.
Spread another pinch of salt and mix well.
隔夜可食.
Serve it next day.
頂風去吃草.
Against the wind to grass.

大雨傾盆而下,
It rained cats and dogs,
時雨時停時雨.........
on and off and on and..........
暴風雨來了!
A storm was here!
風車轉不停.
Windmill spun unceasingly.

塘底的空氣擴散器沒有釋放空氣出來.
No fresh air came out of the diffuser in the pond.
它一定是被淤泥堵住了.
It must get stuck with heavy dirt.
農夫穿起防水衣下池工作.
Nung-fu put on wader and worked in the pond.
他無法完全清乾淨這黑管子.
There is no way to clear the black pipe thoroughly.
我們就去買新的!.
We'll get a new one soon.
魚児, 忍耐一下!
Fish, it won't take too long!

你將紫洋蔥掛我這邊,
You hung purple onions up on the fence of my side,
我將榅桲果醬掛你那邊.
I hung quince preserves up on your side.
我送她一籃鳳梨芭樂,
I brough her a basket of pineapple guava,
她給我一方美麗的貓咪刺繡.
and she made me a beautiful peice of cats embroidery.
我們都是好鄰居.
We are good neighters.
我這邊.

塘中野鴨,
The mallard ducks in the pond,
時擠時散;
crowded and dispersed;
時來時往.
come and go.
野鴨偷吃家鴨穀子,
They steal the feed from farm ducks,
教人討厭;
which is disgusting;
看牠們水中芭蕾,
watching their syncronized swimming,
挺讓我開心.
amuses me very much.
